Narrative:The pilot stated he was over flying an airport at 2,500 feet when he observed smoke coming up behind the firewall followed by flames. A forced landing was made to the airport and the airplane was consumed by fire. Examination of the wreckage could not determine the source of the reported in-flight fire.
Probable Cause: An in-flight fire in the vicinity of the firewall from an undetermined source. This resulted in a forced landing to an airport and total consumption of the airplane by fire after landing.
