Narrative:
On Tuesday, 23.09.30 an aircraft described as "an RAF bombing machine"** crashed from a reported height of 40 feet into a field at Treeton, 4 miles south of Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Made a forced landing in a field and explained to a farmer that his magneto was missing. Examined engine and decided to take off again.

The plane was wrecked but there was no fire. The pilot was removed from the wreckage by a passing group of miners who had witnessed the accident.

Pilot Officer Alfred Cecil Sant received severe head and leg injuries from which he died two days later in Rotherham Hospital. Sant was the 47th member of the Royal Air Force who lost his life in an accident in 1930, as compared with 42 for the whole of 1929.

He is buried at Scopwick Church Burial Ground, Scopwick, Lincolnshire
