Narrative:Airborne 22:00 hrs 23Apr42 on mission to Rostock in Germany.
The flight to Rostock and back was according to plan until the aircraft passed Broagerland when Flakgruppe Küste, based near Flensburg, opened fire and hit the left hand engine which started burning. Six baled out. Shortly before impact the mainplane burnt through & fell away.
This was the crew's first operation.
