Narrative:Tiger Moth N9453 was built to contract 778402/38 by De Havilland Ltd at Hatfield and was awaiting collection 22.11.39. It was then delivered to 20 MU RAF Aston Down, Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire to be prepared for service. On 24.9.40, the Tiger Moth was delivered to 4 EFTS at RAF Brough, East Yorkshire.
It sustained Cat.W damage on the night of 5-6.12.40 when a strong gale effected aircraft either parked or taxying on RAF Brough airfield, East Yorkshire, and the strong winds damaged a number of aircraft. This aircraft was being held down by twenty people when it was blown over, one member of the airfield's aircraft handling team sustained serious back injuries as a result of this incident and was admitted to Hull Royal Infirmary. A pilot is named on the AM1180 accident card.

Ground Crew - AC2 Ernest Ambrose Hatch RAFVR (933266).
The identity of this one which was confirmed as damaged, but there were almost certainly up to nine others damaged at Brough on this night in similar circumstances. This aircraft was blown over when it was being taxied and was deemed not worth repairing when 60 MU inspected this aircraft on 15.12.40. The identities of all the other nine Moths damaged at Brough are not known.
The AC2 ground crewman - Ernest Hatch - later remustered as aircrew and trained as an air gunner. He was killed on 27.4.44 while serving with 106 Squadron when Lancaster JB601 crashed in France. He was 22 years old and is buried at Laneuville-a-Bayard Churchyard, France.
