Operation - Gardening (mine-laying) to Silverthorn (Kattegat).

Homeward-bound, the aircraft was shot down by night fighter pilot Unteroffizier Fritz Hobusch of the 7./NJG 2 based at Grove airfield, who was flying a Dornier Do 217 J-1.

The bodies of Flight Engineer Sgt Francis R. Carter & Wireless Operator/Air Gunner P/O Donald W. Ross RCAF washed ashore on 12 September at Bovbjerg (Lemvig) and Vrist (Harboøre).
Observer Sgt Llastair M. Cockie was found drifted ashore near Thorsminde (Ulfborg).
The three rest in Lemvig cemetery. The four others, Pilot Sgt Harold B. Einarson RCAF, Bomb Aimer Sgt George H.A. Birch, Air Gunner Sgt Arthur F.C. Kensett and Air Gunner Sgt Norman F. Smethurst have no known graves and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
