Written off (damaged beyond rewpair) when crash landed in Marchamley Wood, four miles west of Ternhill, Shropshire 28 October 1952. The pilot - Pilot Officer P E G Freddi (4078064) - had carried out an "engine out" practice forced landing with the engine shut down. He then restarted the engine, and, during the recovery climb out, the engine failed (for real) due to carburettor icing. As the pilot was unable to restart the engine due to this, he made a wheels up frorced landing (for real) into a field adjacent to Marchamley Wood, four miles west of RAF Tern Hill, Shropshire
The incident did no lasting harm to the career of the pilot - he was promoted over time to the rank of Flight Lieutenannt, effective from 31 August 1958 (see link #6)
