On 22 May 2022, a Russian Air Force Sukhoi Su-25 was shot down by Ukrainian forces and crashed near Pylypchatyne, Bakhmut Raion, Donetsk Oblast. The pilot, retired RuAF general-mayor, Kanamat Botashov was killed. Reportedly he was working for the Wagner PMC.
