Narrative:
c/n 6348: RH423 M.38 Messenger Mk.l (145 hp DH Gypsy Major ID) built at Banbridge in 1946; first flown at Long Kesh, then flown to Woodley, where it was photographed outside the flight shed together with RH421 and RH422 in a line, prior to delivery to No 51 MU RAF Lichfield for storage 2.4.46.

Struck off charge when sold to Leslie Walton Hamp 26.5.48; registered G-ALAI as a Messenger Mk.4A 25.5.48 to Dr. Leslie Walton Hamp, Pontesbury, Shropshire with C of R No. 12369/1; c/no quoted as "RH423" but there is also a record of '6348' being quoted by the Air Registration Board. Civilianised by Wolverhampton Aviation Ltd, Pendeford, Wolverhampton; C of A No.10254 issued 18.2.49 to Leslie Walton Hamp, Pendeford, Wolverhampton; re-registered (C of R 12369/2, later R 1797/2) to Leslie Walton Hamp, Frederick Philip Webster & John Brookes Hall, 28.4.49

Damaged taxiing at Hanworth, Middlesex 16.9.50. Re-registered (C of R R 1797/3) to Leslie Walton Hamp, John Brookes Hall & Euarn Kendrick Edwards 20.3.53. Modified to tow gliders in 1955. Cancelled 5.10.57 and re-registered (C of R R 1797/4) to Henry Alfred Pitt-Roche & Mrs Sheila Marion Pitt-Roche & Miss Margret Ann Marchant, t/a The Sky Flying Group, Fairoaks, Chobham, Surrey 13.12.57.

Tail extensively damaged in emergency landing near Winchester, Hampshire, on local flight from Lasham Airfield, Alton, Hampshire 30.11.58; repaired and returned to service. By 1963, named "Sky Hook", and painted overall light blue, with narrow red/white nose chevron. Cancelled 20.12.64 and re-registered (C of R R 1797/5) on 3.5.65 to Austin McNamara, William John Walker & George Terrance Walsh t/a The Cleveland Flying Group, West Hartlepool, based at Tees-side Airport; cancelled 4.8.66 and re-registered (C of R R 1797/6) to George Terrance Walsh, William Hedley Young, Trevor Calcott Walker & Clive Kent, t/a Fourways Flying Group, West Hartlepool, County Durham 7.9.66, based Middleton St George. Registation cancelled 20.11.69 and re-registered (C of R R 1797/7) to Reginald Joseph William Wood, Mirfield, Yorkshire 29.12.69, based at Sherburn-in-Elmet.

When on a flight from between Berck-sur-Mer and Angers, Maine-et-Loire, Loire Valley, northern France, engine failure resulted in a forced landing during which the aircraft ground-looped and the undercarriage collapsed; date given as 6.6.70 but as this was the date on which the registration was cancelled as permanently withdrawn from use, prior to C of A expiry 23.7.70, and the accident may have been earlier.
