The downed Army MRH90 Taipan helicopter was from 6AVN, and had just performed a night time insertion of special forces troops from 2CDO when it crashed in the ocean. Sources have described the crash and resulting scene to me as ‘catastrophic’, with debris spread over a large area

Defence can confirm an Australian Army MRH-90 Taipan helicopter has impacted waters near Lindeman Island, off the Queensland coast. The aircraft was participating in a night-time training activity as part of Exercise Talisman Sabre 2023.
