Cessna F150F G-AVMG had a short life, but a complex history! It was purchased new, by Northair Aviation Ltd, the UK Cessna dealers, based at Yeadon (Leeds/Bradford) Airport from Cessna in the USA. As such, it was UK registered as G-AVMG on 17/5/1967 (C of R R9624/1). For test flying in the USA, and the delivery flight to Brussels, Belgium, it carried the US Registration N17015
Upon arrival at Brussels, Belgium, the intended UK registration G-AVMG was applied on 19/5/1967, along with UK-specific equipment (radar, radio and navigation aids) ready for the delivery flight from Brussels to Leeds/Bradford. However, whilst at Brussels, it was re-sold to a Belgian customer, and the Belgian registration OO-SIT was applied.
In the event, neither the UK registration G-AVMG nor the Belgian registration OO-SIT was ever taken up, as the aircraft was destroyed in a fire at Brussels on 22/5/1967. As per a contemporary report in "Yorkshire Air News" (January 1968):
"In an attempt to solve once and for all the confused mystery of the Northair Cessna 150, burnt in the fire in Brussels: this aircraft, G-AVMG (c/no F0068) was ex-N17105. This explains, first, why it was in an "American Week" display and, also why it had an earlier construction number than its British-registered contemporaries".
A further note in "Yorkshire Air News" (February 1978 issue) adds the following: "G-AVMG was registered on 17th May 1967 and was the ex demonstrator N17015. Whilst still in American marks, it was on display in the Brussels store L'lnnovation, on Rue Neuve, to publicise an ''American Week" and it was destroyed when the store burnt down on 22nd May 1967"
Registration G-AVMG cancelled by the CAA on 3/6/1967 as aircraft "destroyed". (Reports that the registration G-AVMG was re-allocated to a BEA/British Airways BAC 1-11 are incorrect, and a misreading of the registrations G-AVMH and G-AVMK). The registration OO-SIT was re-used on another Cessna F150G (c/no 150-0218) which was written off on 26/8/1974.
Note: Cessna constructed & Reims assembled which explains why it has a Reims c/n & not a Cessna c/n. this aircraft was probably assembled in US to display at shows, then disassembled and sent to Reims.
