Narrative:The BRM Citius Sport ultralight crashed near the Montargil Dam, shortly after takeoff from Ponte de Sor Airport (LPSO), Portalegre, Portugal.
According to the GPIAAF Report:
"According to a witness statement (located in A fig.1), the take-off was slow and the aircraft had difficulty keeping its wings level.
According to the statements of another witness (in B), the aircraft plunged shortly after gaining some altitude above the treetops, initiating a downward movement and colliding with the ground."
Other relevant findings that are present in the GPIAAF Report:
"The aircraft has been recently acquired and the pilot had limited experience in it."
"The airspace in the area of Monte do Lago private runway was conditioned, and overflight without prior coordination was not allowed."
"There is no evidence that the aircraft was authorized to fly, according to the national regulations in force."
"The crew did not file a flight plan and did not maintain bilateral communications with the enroute flight information services or with the Ponte de Sor aerodrome flight information service (AFIS), as required the usage of bilateral communications and transponder, given the airspace design (TRMZ)"
METAR: Cloudy skies, South-western wind (~230º) with 6 to 8 knots and an estimated air temperature around 20 ºC.
The single occupant sustained serious injuries and was transported to Abrantes Hospital.
