Narrative:During a photography flight to check and photograph works carried out by the Municipality of Quito in the "Molinos del Censo". The Fairchild FH-1100 hit powerlines (supposedly due to their low altitude and poor visibility), electrocuting everyone on board.
The pilot Capt. Otavio Gándara and photographer Manuel Utreras were thrown out from the helicopter through the side door and fell onto the Vía Oriental. The other photographer and brother of Manuel, Aníbal Utreras, was left inside the twisted remains of the helicopter when it crashed to the ground. All 3 occupants died.
The helicopter was delivered in October, 1967 and it was part of the presidential flight squadron.
