Narrative:
Pilot Maj. Willem “Bill” Heitmeijer became unconscious because of inhaling toxic fumes. A metal valve in the oxygen mask reacted with the LOX (Liquid Oxygen) causing toxic oxygen pollution.
After this tragic accident all masks were adjusted and the LOX systems were purged on a regular base. The F-104 ran out fuel and crashed nr Straumsnes, 25 km se off Kristiansund, Norway.
