Narrative:
Took off from RAF Melbourne at 22:58 hrs for a bombing operation against Aachen in Germany.
Victory credited to Major Walter Borchers, Stab. NJG 5,as hi
s 20th victory.
After the crew had had bombed their target and were on their way back when the plane was hit by a night fighter and the order was given to bale out of the plane by the pilot, Den Blackford. The only casualty was Frederic Singh, his leg was badly wounded by a cannon shell but he managed to bale out. He was quickly captured and taken to a hospital for treatment. He was interned in Stalag 6J at Dorsten, Germany. He was repatriated at the end of the war with serious leg injury and hospitalised for three years in England and
