Narrative:The aircraft was hit by Flak over Münster, Germany; the pilot, 2nd Lt. E.V. Parnell, abandoned the aircraft over the Netherlands, where it crashed south of Utrecht. He was taken prisoner of war.
The Mustang was flying fighter escort for the USAAF operation against aviation industry and the airfield at Cottbus, Brandenburg, Germany. The airfield and factory was bombed by 17 B-17 Fortresses on that day.
