Narrative:
Takeoff at 22:45 LT for an operation to Hannover, Germany. Heard on w/t advising that the port engine had failed, after which the Wellington crashed at Oude Pekela (Groningen), 9 km E of Veendam at 01:40.
The aircraft had been hit by the Marine-Flak-Abteilung 236 batteries Emden and Delfzijl between 01:15 and 01:20.
The 2 airmen who died are buried in the Essserveld General Cemetery:
