Narrative:
de Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth; Built by DeHavilland New Zealand with MSN DHNZ.176. Taken on charge by the RNZAF as NZ1496 at Rongotai 5.2.45. To Shelly Bay for storage pending disposal in early 1947.

Struck off charge when sold 6.6.47 to Bay of Plenty Aero Club. Regd ZK-APD 20.5.47 to Rotorua & Bay of Plenty Aero Club. Damaged in heavy landing Whakarewarewa Aerodrome, Rotorua, New Zealand, 4.1.49; repaired and returned to service. Damaged when overturned taxying at Whakarewarewa Aerodrome, Rotorua, New Zealand 30.8.49; again, repaired and returned to service. Damaged when overturned on runway Whakarewarewa Aerodrome, Rotorua, New Zealand 10.6.50 after unauthorized removal from hangar; repaired and returned to service for a third time.

Written off (damaged beyond repair) when spun in during aerobatics, struck trees and crashed at Redwoods Forest, Whakarewarewa State Forest, near Rotorua 15.9.50; Pilot and passenger unhurt.

The reported crash location was Redwoods Forest is a forest of naturalised coastal redwood on the outskirts of Rotorua, New Zealand, adjacent to the Whakarewarewa thermal area. The 6 hectares (15 acres) stand of Californian Redwoods is part of the larger Whakarewarewa State Forest at approximate coordinates 38°9′30″S, 176°16′30″E.

Registration ZK-APD cancelled 7.8.51.
