Built at Rongotai by DHNZ. Third Tiger Moth to be built from 100% New Zealand sourced parts (no UK imput into its construction). BOC at Unit 18, Rongotai, 3 March 1941. Entered service with 3 EFTS, RNZAF in Match 1941.
DH82a Tiger Moth NZ801:
Written off (damaged beyond repair) when crashed near the Waimakariri River at 09:15 hrs on 6 June 1942 while being operated by No.3 EFTS. The aircraft entered a spin from a left hand gliding turn at about 1,000 feet and crashed into the ground. Pilot (under training, flying solo) killed.
According to an annoucement in a contemporary local newspaper (Evening Post, Volume CXXXIII, Issue 133, 8 June 1942, Page 6):
"6 June 1942 - Admitted to hospital on Saturday morning after an accident during solo flying training, an airman-pilot under training, Leading Aircraftman Douglas MOIR, R.N.Z.A.F., died early yesterday morning. His mother is Mrs G Moir, 449 Victoria Street, Hamilton".

Written off books at Harewood on 2 July 1942 as reduced to spares.
