Narrative:
Sole Miles M11C Whitney Straight prototype, fitted with a Gipsy Major II (145 hp) engine and variable pitch propeller. First registered [C of R 7903] as G-AEYI on 31.5.37 to Philips & Powis Aircraft Ltd., Woodlet Aerodrome, Woodley, Reading, Berkshire. C of A 6036 issued June 1937.

Written off (destroyed) when crashed at Harefield, near Uxbridge, Middlesex on 28.6.38 whilst on a test flight, killing the pilot Wing Commander Fredrick William Stent, MC (aged 48). According to a contemporary report in "Flight" magazine (see link #7):

"Wing Commander F. W. Stent, M.C.
IT is with regret that we record the death, in a flying accident on June 28, of Wing Cdr. F. W. Stent, M.C.—four days before he was due to compete in the King's Cup Race with Major Howard's Monarch entry. He was flying a Whitney Straight between Woodley and Martlesham in a wind which may be remembered as one of strong and gusty character.

There is no evidence that engine failure occurred, and it can only be supposed that, while flying low by way of practice for Saturday's race, he was caught in a violent air disturbance and the machine hit the ground before he was able to regain control. The accident occurred near Uxbridge".

Registration cancelled 2.7.38 by the Air Ministry due to "destruction or permanent withdrawl from use of aircraft"
