Narrative:
Gloster Gladiator Mk.I K7959, 73 Squadron, RAF Digby, Lincolnshire. Written off (destroyed) 21.3.38 when overshot flare path and sank into the ground on attempted overshoot at RAF Digby. Pilot - Pilot Officer John Francis Pearce (aged 21) - was killed. Aircraft destroyed by fire. According to a contemporary report in "Flight" magazine (31.3.38 page 322 see link #5):

"THE Air Ministry regrets to announce the following accidents: —

P/O. John Francis Pearce lost his life in an accident which occurred at Digby, on March 21, to an aircraft of No. 73 (Fighter) Squadron, Digby, Lincoln. He was the sole occupant of the aircraft"

Delivered to RAF 15.6.37; struck off charge 7.5.38. Total time on airframe 70 hours
