de Havilland DH.82 Tiger Moth 3613 (Gipsy Major #80145): C of A 6021 issued 20.8.37 to Uruguayan Ministry of War as 11. Delivered to Montevideo crtated by sea 10.37. Erected and reflown 6.11.37; assigned to Military School of Aeronautics (EMAer), Pando. Spun in and crashed near Pando 28.10.40; Jnr Lt Omar Soto & Jr Lt Walter Altesor killed. Aircraft rebuilt by late 1941. Re-serialled E-610 [by September 1941].
Written off (destroyed) when crashed (for the second and final time) on landing from Air France Auxiliary Aerodrome, Rocha Lagoon, Uruguay 29.8.42; both crew - 1st Lt Adail Altesor and Lt Jr Washington Baco - killed.
According to one published source (translated into English from the original Uruguayan source - see link #1 for the orignal Uruguayan text)
"On 29 August [1941] Tiger Moths 603, 611 and 610 took off from Pando to navigate to the Air France auxiliary field near Rocha Lagoon. The first two were piloted by Lieutenant Oscar Sena and Lieutenant Jr. Odegar Borba, whilst the instructor 1st Lieutenant Adail Altesor flew in No 610 carrying the mission's mechanic, acting Lieutenant Jr. Washington Baco. No 610 was the last to arrive and crashed on landing killing both occupants.
In the subsequent investigation it was impossible to determine the cause since the machine caught fire and was completely destroyed, and there were no witnesses.
This tragedy acquired a sinister and macabre dimension since by a twist of fate, Lieutenant Altesor was killed in the same aircraft in which his brother Walter had died during the accident at EMAer two years before which also killed Lieutenant Jr. Omar Soto.
It was the fifth Tiger Moth lost; No 610 had flown 1,088 hours and had taken four lives! On 1 October it was officially struck off charge"
