Narrative:
On June 9, 2010, at approximately 09:24 AM, the pilot took off with the SZD-59 "ACRO" glider using aerotow from the Leoben/Timmersdorf Civil Airport (LOGT) for a visual flight towards the Dachstein Mountains. The glider was released over the southern foothills of the Reiting mountain, north of the town of 8773 Kammern im Liesingtal, at an altitude of approximately 1600 meters MSL.

The pilot of the glider continued his flight in a westerly direction on the south side of the Eisenerzer Alps and descended into the Liesingtal area near the Schober Pass. He then followed the Liesingtal in an easterly direction. Around 10:05 AM, the pilot flew several loops at an unusually low altitude above ground in the area between the towns of 8775 Kalwang and 8774 Mautern in Styria on the north side of the Liesingtal, in the vicinity of the later crash site.

The glider crashed south of the Schober Pass Road B113 in an area adjacent to a windbreak belt, east of a meadow.
The pilot sustained fatal injuries, and the glider was destroyed.
