Narrative:
Boeing B-29A-5-BN Superfortress 42-93826: Delivered to USAAF 29 February 1944. Departed Smoky Hill AAF, Kansas for the CBI (China-Burma-India Theater of Operations) on 13 April 1944. Assigned to 468th Bomb Group, 793rd Bomb Squadron 3 May 1944.

Destroyed in combat operations when crashed into mountain at Wutu, 200 miles from Chengtu, China 15 June, 1944, while on mission to bomb steel works at Yawata, Kyoto, Japan. (MACR 6601). All 12 crew were KIA and buried by the Chinese. Crew of 42-93826 were:

2nd Lt. John T. Roberts – Navigator – KIA

S/Sgt. Delbert L. Grimes – Radio Operator – KIA
Cpl. Lambert A. Pfeiffer – Central Fire Controller – KIA
Sgt. Robert P. Sharples – Rear Gunner – KIA
Sgt. Ralph V. Ferracane – Left Gunner – KIA
S/Sgt. William F. Quirke – Tail Gunner – KIA
1st Lt. Henry Escher – Observer from XX Bomber Command – KIA

The bodies of the crew were returned from the People's Republic of China in 1950 and reburied in Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska.
