Narrative:Boeing B-29-80-BW Superfortress 44-70142: Assigned to 462nd Bomb Group. Re-assigned to 3512th Maintenance and Supply Squadron, 3510th Maintenance and Supply Group (ATC), Randolph AFB, Texas. Damaged in an accident 17 May 1951 on the ground at Randolph AFB, Texas. Repaired and returned to service.
Written off (destroyed) 8 November 1951: While on a training flight at Kelly AFB, an engine caught fire and exploded. The crew decided to bail out and abandoned the aircraft that crashed 2 miles north of the airbase and was destroyed. There were no casualties.
Cause: Engine fire and explosion in flight.
