Narrative:Crashed on a routine training flight. The subject airplane was flying in the No 4 position of a four-plane formation when the lead airplane entered a cloud. The pilot, possibly fearing a collision in the clouds, attempted to reduce his speed by alternately throttling back the motors. This action, however, caused a stall and spin and the bomber began to plummet. Excessive G-forces caused a wing tip, rudder and elevator to fail, and control was completely lost and the aircraft crashed, near the community of Tularosa, New Mexico. Only one crewmember, the radio operator, successfully parachuted and survived. The remaining eleven men aboard were killed:
2LT James W. McClure , O-663929, IL, Pilot
2LT James B. Milligan, O-736292, TN, Co-Pilot
