Narrative:
This airframe was built in September of 1992 as N2344K. It went to Japan and became JA7896 in December 1992. It was returned to the US in June 1996 and took up its old N2344K registration - I presume for a factory 2200 hour rebuild, before returning to Japan again as JA7896. It moved to Indonesia in late June 2004 and became PK-AVU and ultimately to New Zealand to become ZK-IXR on 20-11-2007 with Heli-Pest Ltd of Haast. Ownership changed on 29-02-2008 to Shooters Supplies Ltd of Christchurch.

On 06-04-2011, the Flight was transporting the first of a part of two hunters, friends of the pilot. Authorities were told the helicopter was missing about 2 pm after a hunter who had been dropped off this morning made it to a nearby station to say it had not turned up, National Rescue Co-ordination Centre spokesman Ross Henderson said.

The helicopter was found in Mistake Creek in the Rolleston Range northwest of Lake Coleridge and one of the two occupants died at the scene. Pilot died – later named as Adrian James Mayberry, 59, of Christchurch. The passenger was seriously injured. Cause of accident attributed to dynamic rollover on uneven ground. According to a contemporary press report (see link #4):

"One dead in chopper crash

One person is dead after a helicopter crashed in the Lake Coleridge area, about 100 km west of Christchurch, this afternoon. Authorities were told the helicopter was missing about 2 pm after a hunter who had been dropped off this morning made it to a nearby station to say it had not turned up, National Rescue Co-ordination Centre spokesman Ross Henderson said.

The helicopter was found in the Rolleston Range northwest of Lake Coleridge and one of the two occupants died at the scene. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter with St John Ambulance paramedics on board took one man to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries, an ambulance spokesman said.

Henderson said privately owned Robinson R-22 was found about 3.35 pm after a search involving two helicopters, on from Garden City Helicopters and the other from Mount Hutt helicopters.

"It had dropped off a party of hunters about 9.30 am this morning and apparently had gone off to do something else but was expected back shortly after but never returned,'' he said. He did not know if the hunters had been picked up by another helicopter."
