Narrative:
Lockheed Hudson Mk.I N7335 (UA-F) 269 Squadron, RAF: Written off (destroyed) when lost (failed to return) from combat operations 30 May 1940. Three of the four crew were killed, one survived to be taken as a PoW. According to the official Air Ministry file into the incident (File AIR 81/679): "Hudson N7335 failed to return from a reconnaissance flight over Stavanger, Norway, 30 May 1940. Temporary Warrant Officer J H MacKenzie: prisoner of war. Sergeant A A Townsend, Pilot Officer A V N Bartlett and Pilot Officer W N Hammond - report of deaths"

Hudson N7335 took off at 11.15 hrs from RAF Wick, Caithness, Scotland, for a reconnaissance of the Norwegian Coast. Set course for the Norwegian coast, and shot down at 14.30 hrs by Fw R. Menge of 5/JG77 near the battery at Hellestø Island, west of Stavanger, Norway. Three crew killed, one survived to be taken as a PoW.

Pilot Officer William Newell Hammond, RAF 43136, age 26, posted 30/05/1940, as missing in action, presumed dead
Sergeant Albert Allen Townsend, RAF 580215, age 26, posted 30/05/1940, as missing in action, presumed dead
Leading Aircraftman S. MacKenzie, 524386, survived, captured, taken as a POW; transferred to Stalag 344 (Lamsdorf) as POW no 26883.

As no trace was ever found of Hudson N7335 or the remaining three crew members, they are all commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial
