Narrative:Written off (destroyed) 12,11,2011 when crashed into the sea(The English Channel) 25 miles (27 nautical miles) north west of Alderney, Channel Isles. Of the two persons on board (pilot and one passenger) the pilot was killed (presumed drowned when the aircraft sank - no trace of the pilot was ever found); the passenger, who was also the pilot's wife, manged to get into a lifeboat, and was rescued. She was then winched aboard the SAR helicopter and taken to Cherbourg hospital, where she was found to be suffering from hypothermia, but otherwise with no significant injuries. According to the following excerpt frokm the official AAIB report into the accident:
"The aircraft suffered a loss of electrical power during a day crossing of the English Channel to Alderney. The pilot became uncertain of his position and elected to ditch the aircraft near to a commercial surface vessel. The ditching was successful and the passenger escaped from the aircraft and was subsequently rescued. However, the pilot was unable to escape from the aircraft before it sank."
Nature of Damage sustained to airframe: Per the AAIB report "Aircraft lost at sea". As a result, the registration G-BXRG was formally cancelled by the CAA as aircraft "destroyed" on 17.01.2012
