Narrative:
A Mainair Gemini Flash IIA microlight (full c/n 757-589-5-W550) crashed in a field, close to Kennet, near Clackmannan, Clackmannanshire, Scotland.

The plane is reported to have plunged between 200 feet (61 metres) and 300 feet (91 metres) in the accident, which happened near the village of Kennet in Clackmannanshire, Scotland at about 2.15 pm yesterday. The man was the only person in the microlight and he is thought to have been out flying alone, rather than with any official club or school.

There were no reports of anyone else being injured.Yesterday evening, a red tent covered the wreckage and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch was in attendance.

The aircraft came down close to a farmhouse next to the field. Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service said earlier that it had one appliance from Alloa on stand-by. Central Scotland Police spokeswoman said: "One man has died and inquiries are at an early stage. "The incident occurred in a rural area, and it is not yet clear at what stage of the flight this has occurred. Police, ambulance and fire services all attended, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The man will not be identified until his next of kin had been informed."

A spokeswoman for Central Scotland Fire and Rescue said: "The incident occurred close to Kennet Garden Farm. "The microlight appears to have come down in a field - it doesn't appear to have struck any structures."

According to the summary of the official AAIB report into the accident: "Immediately after takeoff, the weight-shift microlight entered a steep climb. The nose then dropped (probably as a result of a stall) and the aircraft struck the ground in a steep nose-down altitude. The owner piloting the aircraft was fatally injured. This was the owner’s first flight in the aircraft and also his first solo flight. There was no evidence that the pilot had received any formal training prior to this attempt."

Notes:
1. G-MVSV was de-registered by CAA 9 December 2011 !
2. C of A Validity Expired: 28/05/2009 / Insurance Evidence - Date of "No Flight": 18/02/2011
3. It can therefore be concluded the that flight was "unofficial" at least, even illegal, as neither the aircraft nor the pilot were "airworthy". The aircraft had no C of A, and the pilot had little if any training in flying it.
4. In addition, the pilot killed was named as Adrian Paterson, aged 49 from Clackmannan. This is NOT the same person as the "last registered owner" (a Mr. Paul Shelton, of Batley, West Yorkshire). It is possible, in view of the lack of a valid C of A, and the cancelled registration, that the aircraft was "sold on" (see link #2) and the new owner simply "could not be bothered with the paperwork", and did not notify the CAA of the change of ownership, or apply for a new C of A.
5. Therefore, the "operator" has been changed to the name of the pilot who was at the controls when it crashed.
6. Damage sustained to airframe: Per the AAIB report "aircraft destroyed".
