Narrative:Tiger Moth MSN 3137 (Gipsy Major #5003): Registered G-ABYJ [CofR 3848] 14.7.32 to The de Havilland Aircraft Co Ltd, Hatfield. (Air Ministry registration document states "Stag Lane, Edgware") CofA 3538 issued 22.7.32. Retained by DeHavilland for use as a sales and demonstration aircraft. To Portugal for evaluation/demonstrations September/October 1932; flown by Christopher Clarkson.
Upon return to Hatfield, operated by 1 E&RFTS/DH Reserve School. Damaged when stalled on landing 17.6.35; repaired. Operated by 13 E&RFTS White Waltham, Maidenhead, Berkshire c.10.35 after repairs.
Written off (damaged beyond repair) when crashed at Winkfield, Berkshire, 13.7.36 while attempting to land at RAF White Waltham; pupil pilot C.J.P. Gordon survived with injuries.
Registration G-ABYJ cancelled by the Air Ministry in January 1937 due to "destruction or permanent withdrawl from use of aircraft".
However, DeHavilland records say “Written Off - see 3514” which would imply it was rebuilt as G-AEMF (MSN 3514). G-AEMF was written off in a separate, later crash at Lotham Hall, near Maxey, Lincolnshire on 12.4.41 (which see)
