" Der Auftrag: Eisenbahnbrücke in Ahrweiler zerstören.
Gestartet war die zweimotorigen Maschine vom französischen Roye/Amy. Der Auftrag lautete, in einem Verband über St. Vith und die Eifel nach Ahrweiler zu fliegen und dort eine Eisenbahnbrücke zu zerstören. In einem zweiten Anflug wurde der Verband von deutschen Jägern entdeckt und in einen Luftkampf verwickelt.
17 von 32 Maschinen wurden abgeschossen."
"Die 391. Bomb Group der 9. US-Air-Force verlor am Vormittag des 23. Dezembers 1944 insgesamt 16 Bomber im Luftraum zwischen Wittlich und Schmidtheim. Die ,,Mission Ahrweiler“ ging als ein schwarzer Tag in die US-Kriegsgeschichte ein."
