Boulton Paul Defiant Mk.I N3449, 10 AGS (Air Gunnery School) RAF: Written off (destroyed) 20 August 1942 when Crashed into sea at Haverigg Beach, Duddon Estuary, near Millom, Cumberland, after engine failure over the Duddon Estuary. Both crew killed (drowned).

Crew of Defiant N3449:
Leading Aircraftman Geoffrey BRADSHAW (576169) RAF (Wireless Op, aged 19) - killed on active service 20 August 1942, buried at Staveley Cemetery, Staveley, Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Pilot Officer James Ferguson MACKIE (110610) RAFVR (Pilot, aged 28) - killed on active service 20 August 1942, buried at Rothiemay Parsish Churchyard, Milltown, Banffshire, Scotland.

Of the two crew, the body of LAC James Mackie was recovered the same day. The body of P/O Bradshaw, was recovered 48 hours later, on the afternoon of 22 August 1942
