Narrative:On 07/12/1961, XG578 ("527-CU") a Westland Whirlwind HAR3 of 705 NAS FAA RN rolled rapidly to starboard after manual control was selected after take off. Control was lost and the helicopter crashed onto its starboard side at Trenance Farm, near Mullion, Cornwall. Both crew escaped safely. To Fleetlands for crash investigation and possible repair, but instead declared a write off and scrapped (broken up as spares and produce)
