Written off (aircraft destroyed) 8/11/1985 when struck a tree and crashed soon after takeoff from a private airstrip at Drumlanrig Castle on the Queensberry Estate in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Both persons on board (pilot and one passenger) were killed. According to the following extract from the official AAIB report into the accident:
"Witness evidence suggested that, during the take off, the aircraft, which appeared to be surrounded by a cloud of spray, drifted off to the left of the tarmac driveway that leads up to the Castle (which was being used as an improvised runway) and become airborne about halfway to three quarters of the way along this road.
The aircraft was seen to climb at a shallow angle and 'hop over' sine overhead power lines which crossed its path. After clearing the wires, the aircraft was seen to sink down slightly before continuing its shallow climb. Further on, the aircraft clipped the top of a tree on the edge of a small copse which was in the aircraft's path. The aircraft was seen to bank to the right and descend until lost from view."
Damage sustained to airframe: Per the AAIB report, confirmed as "aircraft destroyed". As a result, the registration G-AZVV was cancelled by the CAA 8/8/1986 (nine months later, to the day) as "Permanently withdrawn from use"
