R.C.C. Trenton was advised by St. Catharines F.S.S. of an overdue aircraft and initiated a search for a missing aircraft. The aircraft was on a VFR flight plan from the French River (southwest of Lake Nipissing) to Hamilton. The aircraft's last known position was the French River area (through contact with F.S.S.). A Hercules aircraft (and subsequently a Labrador helicopter as well) were tasked to search for the aircraft. Two (2) S.O.B. Weather: initially (at last known position) was VMC but deteriorating to IMC along the planned route.The wreckage of the aircraft was subsequently found (1998/07/08 at noon) in/near a quarry at Milton, ON (about 20 NM west of Toronto (LBPIA)). Both S.O.B. were fatally injured and the aircraft was consumed by a post-crash fire. T.S.B. notified and will be going on-site. O.P.I.: PAB Supplemental information from T.S.B. initial notification (#A98O0169): The Cessna 180 departed French River, Ontario destined to Hamilton. A VFR flight plan was filed. When the aircraft failed to arrive at the destination, a search was commenced. The aircraft was found the next day. The aircraft was destroyed by the ground impact and post-crash fire. Both occupants were fatally injured.
