Narrative:
A Gulfstream GVI airplane, EI-JSK, had an uncommanded engine shutdown in flight near Waterford, Ireland. The flight departed from and returned to Shannon Airport. The flight was destined for Farnborough Airport.

Probable Cause
The left-hand engine EEC was unable to control its VSV system resulting in an EEC-initiated IFSD of the left-hand engine.
Contributory Cause(s)
1. Corrosion of the bores in the VSV system compressed the VSV bushings leading to excessive friction at the vane actuating spindles. This resulted in a difference between the demanded and actual position achieved by the system, causing a VSV
track check fault.
2. Extant software in the EEC directed the engine to shut down when a VSV system track check fault was identified
