The pilot and his passenger decided to undertake a two-hour flight from the Aspres-sur-Buëch Airfield towards the mountains. They had agreed with the passenger's daughter to fly over her house located near Veynes, six kilometers east of the aerodrome. After takeoff, a witness located at the edge of the runway, saw the ULM make two tight 270° turns before flying over the runway, against the direction and at low altitude.
The passenger's daughter explained that she saw the ULM approaching from the southwest, in the direction of the Petit Buëch valley, at low altitude. The valley was dotted with poplar trees about thirty meters high, and the ULM was flying roughly at the level of their treetops. It passed in front of the house from left to right and then began a right turn before disappearing behind the house. Several witnesses farther away saw it flying at low altitude and then suddenly climbing steeply facing a steep hill, one hundred meters high, located south of the house. They then saw it initiate a sharp right turn and "spin out." The passenger's daughter saw the ULM reappear "on its side" above the house. It lost altitude, struck a medium-voltage power line, flipped over, hit the ground, and caught fire. The ULM was destroyed by the impact and the fire.
The examination of the wreckage did not reveal any anomalies that could have caused the accident.
