The aircraft experienced an apparent loss of yaw control and subsequent impact on a beach near the mouth of the Kekerengu River at Kekerengu in Kaikōura District, Canterbury. The helicopter sustained substantial damage and two occupants onboard were fatally injured. Three other occupants received serious injuries.
