Le 18 août 2001, peu avant 7 h 40, le pilote du Cessna F177RG immatriculé F-BVIY remonte la piste 28 de Propriano pour un vol à destination du Castellet, après avoir signalé ses intentions sur la fréquence d'auto-information 118,5 MHz. A l'issue des essais moteurs qu'il effectue sur la raquette en bout de piste, il annonce à la radio qu'il s'aligne et décolle sur la piste 28. En pleine phase d'accélération, il aperçoit le Cessna 182E immatriculé F-BKRA qui roule sur le taxiway vers la piste. Il entend son pilote annoncer son alignement et son décollage en 28 puis le voit s'engager sur la piste sans s'immobiliser au point d'arrêt. Lancé dans sa course de décollage, le pilote du F-BVIY effectue une manoeuvre d'évitement en déviant sa trajectoire vers la droite à l'aide du palonnier et en inclinant simultanément l'avion à droite. L'aile gauche passe au-dessus de l'aile droite du Cessna 182. Il poursuit son décollage, constate un endommagement du tube pitot situé sous l'aile gauche, effectue un tour de piste et se pose avec précaution.
