Narrative:
Ex-RAF Anson W1731 (former RAF serial used in place of an official c/no on CAA documentation). First civil registered as G-ALXH on 16 January 1950. (C of A issued 13 October 1953). Bought by BKS from Mrs Dorothy Whyham t/a Air Navigation & Trading Co Ltd., Squires Gate, Blackpool, Lancashire 27 April 1954. It underwent major reconstruction, being converted., from an Anson Mk.1 to a Mk.II using parts of Anson PH808 and fitting Cheetah 15 engines.

Written off 9 April 1963 when crashed into a field off Carlton Lane, near Guiseley, West Yorkshire.

Shortly after take-off from Leeds/Bradford Airport, for a positioning flight to Belfast, the cabin filled with smoke which issued from the camera hatch near the starboard wing root. The aircraft was, by this time, about 800 ft. above the downwind end of the runway from which it had taken off, and the pilot closed the throttles and began a descending turn to port. At about 400 ft., power was applied for a base leg and short final but, despite full throttle, the airspeed began to fall. Because he found it necessary to apply an increasing amount of left rudder, the pilot concluded that the starboard engine had failed and he decided to make a forced landing in a field outside the airport. During the approach, the aircraft was dived, and turned, in an attempt to avoid HT wires, but it collided with a port and struck the ground heavily.

The aircraft was owned by BKS Survey, on board were Captain Ronald Fox who was the pilot, John Symington the navigator and Malcolm Budd a photographer. Malcolm was aged 16 and it was his first flight, all three men escaped from the crash unharmed.

The pilot had suspected that one of the two engines was on fire and shut it down but this type of aircraft was not designed to fly on one engine only consequently the crash occurred. Immediately after the accident Captain Fox left the scene and did not return, an investigation found that both engines were in order.

Wreckage recovered to Leeds/Bradford Airport and scrapped (see link #5 for eyewitness report). Registration G-ALXH cancelled by the CAA as aircraft "Destroyed" 14 May 1963
