on 26/11/43 it was one of two Boomerangs on a tactical reconnaissance when they were last seen by the fighter escort from 41st FS engaged in combat by 7 enemy fighters near Sanga River (in Finschhafen area) with pilot F/Sgt Alan John Salter (414841) believed KIA as neither the pilot or Boomerang were found in post-war searches
