Narrative:Royal Navy, 885 Squadron, Seafire NF535 operating out of RNAS Lee-on-Solent, Hampshire, England, was shot down by a Luftwaffe FW190 on the 7th June 1944, when on a combat mission over the Normandy beaches on day two of the allied invasion of France ("Operation Neptune").
Pilot, Lt, Cdr, S A Devonald ditched the aircraft in the sea off the beachheads, was rescued and repatriated back to England and rejoined his unit.
