Narrative:
A Piper PA-28-161 Warrior II crashed during a forced landing near Barranquilla-Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAC/SKBQ).
The aircraft took off from runway 05 at 12:37 UTC. ADS-B records show that it began turning back at 12:41 UTC. The pilot apparently attempted a forced landing in field near the airport. Both wings separated and the fuselage was substantially damaged. The pilot was injured.

Probable causes
Impact with the ground during an emergency landing due to a total failure of the powerplant caused by a complete fracture of a connecting rod.
Failure in the material of the crankpin surface due to partial loss of material, resulting in erosion in the central part of the crankpin. This, in turn, caused obstruction in the lubrication system, increasing friction and temperature between materials, weakening the theoretical strength of the material and resulting in a complete fracture of the connecting rod.
Contributing factors
Weak processes in the maintenance area, which failed to detect engine damage during scheduled services or through proper inspection of filters or analysis of oil condition, taking into account the age of the engines and demanding operating conditions.
Ineffectiveness of the Safety Management System (SMS) of the Aeronautical Instruction Center, influenced by a lack of reporting culture, deficient risk management, and limited integration between the system and maintenance processes.
