On 19 December 2022, a Ukrainian Army Aviation Mil Mi-8 helicopter of the 16th Army Aviation Brigade was shot down by forces of the Russian Federation in the vicinity of Tonenke, Donetsk Oblast. Both pilots, Pidpolkovnyk Zubach and Pidpolkovnyk Hulov were killed in action. This was officially acknowledged by the Brody City Council.
The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation claimed responsibility for the downing, stating that on the previous day, a Ukrainian Mi-8 had been shot down in the vicinity of Timofeyevka.
