On January 22, 2023, about 1127 central standard time, a Beech M35 Bonanza airplane,
N9306Y, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Tomball, Texas. The pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 aerial survey flight.
According to the operator, the flight departed about 1008 from the West Houston Airport (IWS), Houston, Texas. The pilot stated that the flight departed with about 103 gallons of fuel available. After flying about 1 hour 18 minutes the airplane experienced a loss of engine power about 8.5 nautical miles west of David Wayne Hooks Memorial Airport (DWH), Spring, Texas. The pilot estimated the airplane was 1,600 to 1,900 ft mean sea level (msl) when the loss of engine power occurred. The pilot switched fuel tanks, increased the mixture control to fuel rich, and checked the magnetos, but he was unable to restore engine power. A forced landing was made to the eastbound lanes of Highway 99 about 1 mile west of the Telge Road exit. The airplane collided with a semi-trailer during the forced landing, and a postimpact fire erupted when the airplane impacted a concrete median.
The airplane sustained substantial damage during the postimpact fire. The airplane wreckage was recovered to DWH where an examination will be conducted.
