Narrative:On February 11, 2023, about 1406 central standard time, a Jabiru J250-SP light sport airplane, N592J, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Courtland, Illinois. The pilot and passenger were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight
The pilot reported that about 4 hours into the flight, without any warning, the engine suddenly stopped producing power. The electronics, with exception of the radios, also went out. She noted that the engine would regain power briefly, but then lose power again within 3 or 4 seconds. The cockpit displays would regain power momentarily along with the engine. She executed a forced landing to a muddy field which caused the airplane to come to rest on its nose. The airframe sustained damage to the fuselage and right wing.
Airframe and engine examinations are planned once the airplane has been recovered from the field.
