Written off (damaged beyond repair) 18 April 1999 due to a structural failure of the right rear wing spar, which was caused after the aircraft landed and taxied back to the aircraft's parking space. According to the following excerpt from the official AAIB report into the accident:
"After a dual training flight the student was taxiing the aircraft back to the normal parking area at a normal speed. Whilst passing between the refueling point and some parked aircraft, the student inadvertently applied right brake and the aircraft swung to the right. The instructor applied both brakes but was unable to stop the right wing tip striking the refueling kiosk.
The instructor stopped the engine, completed the shut down checks and inspected the wing tip for damage which appeared to be minor. The damage was reported to the engineers who subsequently reported that the right rear wing spar had failed approximately 9 inches from the inboard wing attachment point."
The damaged sustained was presumably "beyond economic repair", as the CAA cancelled the registration as "destroyed", albeit quire some time later, on 29 June 2005. The stripped out wreck was dumped out on the airfield at Leicester Airport for several years, until the airframe was broken up in 2009. The cabin section went to Shuttleworth Aerodrome in Bedfordshire for use as a crash rescue procedures trainer.
