Narrative:
Avro Lancaster B. Mk. III RF257, 427 Sqdn RCAF: Written off (damaged beyond repair) 10-1-1946 in a landing accident at RAF Leeming, North Yorkshire. The pilot landed the aircraft too fast, and too far down the runway at RAF Leeming. As the aircraft swung off the end of the runway, the pilot intentionally raised the undercarriage to facilitate an emergency stop. The aircraft was wrecked, but all seven crew were uninjured.

427 Squadron RCAF re-equipped with Avro Lancaster bombers in March 1945, prior to the end of World War II. After the end of the war (8-5-45) the Lancasters were used for prisoner of war repatriation until the end of 31-5-46. 427 Squadron RCAF was stood down on 1-6-46
