Narrative:Preliminary Information from System Safety: A privately registered Robinson R44 Astro crashed on takeoff 2011/08/11. The actual time of the incident and actual location are to be confirmed. Both persons on board the helicopter went to the hospital as a precaution following the accident and were uninjured. TSB to be advised and will provide permission to move the helicopter., 2011-08-12 - UPDATE from TSB: The accident occurred late in the morning on Thursday, 2011-08-11. The TSB is identifying the time at 11:00 am PST. The location of the accident is near Bear Lake, which is 50 to 60 miles north of Prince George. The TSB is not going onsite. The TSB gave the owner permission to move the aircraft., 2011-08-15 - UPDATE location to near Bear Lake, which is 50 to 60 miles north of Prince George., 2011-08-30 - UPDATE from TSB: A11P0122: The pilot of the R44 helicopter was attempting to depart from a clear cut knoll in gusty wind conditions near Bear Lake, BC. The aircraft was climbing through 50-70 ft AGL when it yawed violently 180 degrees. The pilot attempted to regain control however, was unable and the aircraft struck the ground. The aircraft was substantially damaged and the occupants received minor injuries.
