Narrative:
On July 20, 2023, about 1655 central daylight time, a Cub Crafters CCX-2000 Carbon Cub, N967DT, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Winsted, Minnesota. The pilot was uninjured. The airplane was operated as a Title14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

The pilot stated that when the airplane was about 50 to 100 ft above ground level, he attempted to add power but the engine would not respond and the rpms were near zero. Unable to arrest the descent, the airplane landed hard, which resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage. He said that before each departure, he ensured the airplane was at full fuel and he sumped all three fuel drain ports, with no contaminants noted.

Onboard video was recovered and retained for further analysis and a detailed engine examination is pending.
